Oscar-nominated actress Keira Knightley has played so many unhappy brides—from her defiant would-be bride in Pirates of the Caribbean to her unwilling bride in The Duchess—that it seemed like the 27-year-old British actress might have been scared off of marriage altogether! Luckily, that doesn’t seem to be the case, as the actress has been seen spending quality time with her boyfriend, British rock star James Righton, with a new piece of bling sparkling from her ring finger. Yes, it seems that Keira Knightley is off the market (sorry, guys!)
Although Knightley is famous for wearing elaborate period dresses and jewelry in many of her films, when it came to her engagement ring, she chose a simple, classic and modern style: the solitaire engagement ring setting, in platinum, set with a simple round brilliant diamond. This style is secure, beautiful, maximizes diamond performance, and can be worn with absolutely anything, making it the number one style of engagement ring for brides around the world. It seems the Knightley, unlike some other recently-engaged celebrities who went to great lengths to custom-design rings the world had never seen before, opted for the comfort and simplicity of this classic style.

But of course, just because the ring is classic and traditional, doesn’t mean it isn’t extravagant in its own way. Experts who evaluated photos of Knightley’s ring estimated that due to the size of the diamond (over 2 carats) and the quality of the ring and diamond, it likely cost about $40,000. Definitely not small change for most of us, but hardly on par with some of the most expensive celebrity engagement rings of all time.
However, Knightley didn’t seem that perturbed about the relative cheapness of her ring, as she spent the weekend of her engagement hanging out in public with Righton and sneaking in some PDA. Cheers to the new couple!
