Beyonce and Jay-Z’s Baby News – Baby Blue

After months of rocking the hottest maternity fashions ever seen on the red carpet, it’s time for R&B star Beyonce Knowles to go shopping again—this time, for baby clothes! That’s right. The 30-year-old singer, actress and designer, who has been dating hip-hop icon Jay-Z since 2002 and has been married to him since 2008, has just given birth to her first child, a girl the couple has named Blue Ivy Carter.

Yes, Blue Ivy Carter. The baby girl’s first name, Blue, is said to be her parents’ favorite color as well as a motif that shows up often in her father’s music and album titles. Ivy supposedly refers to IV, or 4, a number with personal significance to Beyonce and Jay-Z as well.(Beyonce’s most recent album was titled 4, and that is the date of the couple’s anniversary as well as both of their birthdays.) Blue Ivy was given the same last name as her father, whose legal name is Shawn Carter. It may be an unusual name, but at least the blogosphere can stop calling her Bayonce, which has been the baby’s title ever since Beyonce first announced her pregnancy by wearing a voluminous caftan to the Grammy’s back in August and performing in a tuxedo that clearly revealed her baby bump.
While Beyonce remains out of the spotlight to recuperate from her natural birth at a New York hospital (where hospital staffers were requested to hand over their cell phones and Beyonce was surrounded by a private security team), the proud father has turned to Twitter and his personal website to welcome his daughter to the world. His brand-new song, titled “Glory, ft. B.I.C.”, which features a recording of Blue Ivy’s newborn cries, has already hit the Billboard charts, making little Blue Ivy the youngest person ever on the chart.
In the days since the baby’s arrival, the happy parents say they have been inundated with baby gifts. Oprah Winfrey sent a trunk of children’s books, and music world superstars like P. Diddy, Kanye West, Mariah Carey and Rihanna have all sent lavish baby gifts. However, the couple has announced that they will be giving all these presents to a charity that supports young single mothers. However, there is one gift from a close friend that the couple plans to keep: a diamond-encrusted pacifier made by Cartier, worth $20,000. With parents like hers, one can only guess that this is only the first of many blinged-out gifts for little Blue Ivy.
