The hottest trend in weddings these days is DIY—Do It Yourself. But if you are new to the whole DIY scene, and have never even heard of Etsy, it can be intimidating to launch your very first DIY project for your wedding. Unless you have a serious background in crafting, sewing etc., experts do not recommend that you take on major DIY wedding projects like making your own wedding gown or bouquet. But anyone—literally anyone—can bring the personalized DIY touch to their wedding day with homemade party favors.

Everybody’s favorite party favors involve food! Food party favors are cute, inexpensive, and give guests something to munch on the way home. Choose a fun snack relating to the theme of your party and wrap it beautifully for guests to grab on the way out. You can package small chocolates like M&Ms in a small gauze bag, or tie small plastic boxes filled with mixed nuts with a brightly colored ribbon. For something a little more involved, consider sending each guest home with a home-baked cookie in a paper bakery box, or even setting up a candy bar with jars of brightly colored candy and scoops so guests can fill up a bag of candy for the way home. You can easily design and print your own chocolate bar wrapper, and then re-wrap your favorite kind of chocolate in custom made wrapper!
If you want to stay away from food-themed favors, there are still many ways you can easily make your own wedding favors. You can buy small trinkets like keychains or small photo frames in bulk and customize them by inscribing them with your monogram and wedding date. Bonus points if you have a photobooth at the wedding, and then send guests home with a custom photo frame to use with the photobooth snapshots! If you are handy with paint pens or puff paint, consider customizing small glass items like shot glasses with your names and wedding dates for a fun, creative party favor. If you are better at custom graphic design, print up some custom-made t-shirts with a fun photo of the two of you as a fun way to end the night.
Once you decide to make DIY wedding favors, you’ll begin to realize that the options are endless. You can match your favors to the season and style of the wedding—like handheld fans at a summer garden party or homemade Mason jar candles at a romantic winter wonderland wedding. You can easily adjust the difficulty level, formality, cost and theme according to your needs and desires—because when it’s DIY, you get to decide!
