19-Year-Old Miley Cyrus Rocks Engagement Ring

Only one year ago, teen pop singer and former Disney star of Hannah Montana fame announced that since she was now an adult, she was going to let loose and experiment with a more wild lifestyle than her contract with Disney had previously allowed. She followed that up in short order with some sexy music videos, a couple tattoos, a few hard-partying nights, a couple drunken or high tweets, and a pretty risqué birthday cake. Now that she is 19, it seems that Miley is past that rebellious stage though, as judged by the fact that the teen starlet has just announced that she is engaged.
Cyrus, 19, and her new fiance, Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth, 22, have been dating for three years, since they co-starred in 2009's The Last Song, which is a pretty respectable length of time, especially in Hollywood. But the news that the two young A-listers plan to tie the knot this year is sure to raise a few eyebrows, and will probably spark a few pregnancy rumors too. But as surprising and perhaps dubious the engagement is, there is no denying that the engagement ring Cyrus wore to her most recent public appearance is as serious as it gets. A 3.5 carat cushion-cut diamond set on a narrow gold band and surrounded with a halo of smaller diamonds, the ring is a Neil Lane design that Hemsworth chose himself. Followers of Cyrus' Twitter account may have noticed that Hemsworth seems to have given her a "practice ring" of a topaz ring with a very similar design back in March. At the time, the starlet assured fans she was not engaged, but it doesn't seem very unlikely that Hemsworth may have given her the topaz to gauge her fondness for the general style before springing for a ring worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

And how does the young actor afford such a serious, grown-up diamond ring? Most 22-year-old grooms would have a hard time coming up with the cash for a proper diamond engagement ring, but as one of the stars of the super-popular Hunger Games film with more significant roles in the two upcoming films, Liam Hemsworth is in a position to buy his young new bride whatever she wants. (Not that Miley Cyrus, one of the highest-earning teens in the business, needs to be supported by anyone!) Although no wedding date has been set yet, the happy couple (and Cyrus' thrilled parents) have all confirmed to the press that they are looking forward to the wedding day!
