With a new album flying off the shelves, and a new baby on the way, R&B songstress Beyonce has finally decided to unveil a tiny peek at some footage from her secret 2008 wedding to hip hop mogul Jay-Z, which until now the couple had kept under wraps. In her soon-to-be released DVD, Beyonce talks a little about her life story, and includes a few images of her wedding dress. The white gown is sexy and stunning, dramatic and over-the-top, a little like Beyonce herself.
In April 2008, when word first got out that Beyonce and Jay-Z had tied the knot, there was no tangible evidence for the power couple’s legions of fans to see. Then in September of that year, Beyonce began wearing an
engagement ring so opulent it had to be seen to be believed. The18-carat emerald-cut flawless stone set on a platinum band by Lorraine Schwartz was said to be worth $5 million—one of the most expensive
celebrity engagement rings ever; so pricey Beyonce could only wear it when accompanied by a bodyguard. (She later confessed to having a replica made for everyday wear.)
In the video stills that were released today, Beyonce reveals that her over-the-top taste in engagement rings carried over into her choice of wedding dress. No word yet on who designed the gown, but in the photos, Beyonce is shown with her hair dark and pulled back, a minimalist makeup look, and an itty-bitty waist. The white satin dress has a criss-crossing satin bodice, plenty of side ruching along the waist, and a slim fit that hugs her famous curves. The skirt and train are so dramatic they officially put all future brides on notice: dozens of yards of satin billow into a breathtakingly dramatic draped skirt and a train that extends several feet behind the bride.
Fans of Beyonce’s style are likely to be excited and, at the same time, unsurprised. The dress features the same fit-and-flare style that Beyonce usually favors for her red carpet appearances—the slim-fitting upper portion highlights her famously curvy figure, and the dramatically flared skirts give her the regal attention-getting look befitting the princess of R&B.
