Spacer Bands – Enhance and Protect your Diamond Wedding Set

One of the best accessories in bridal jewelry is the diminutive ‘spacer band’. Although it is small, it performs an important role in situations that call for it. A spacer band is essentially just a very thin metal ring that is worn between two rings.

The main purpose of the spacer band is to create a buffer between engagement ring and wedding band. It serves to protect certain types of rings by separating them from wearing against each other. This is particularly important in the case of rings that have diamonds on the vertical interior faces, which many popular styles do today. Rubbing against one another can cause damage to the metal and possibly to the diamonds on one or both rings. A thin metal band is an inexpensive insurance policy against costly repairs in the future.

A second purpose that the spacer band serves is to fill the gap created by certain combinations of rings that do not by themselves create a flush fit. This can be the case with head styles on some engagement rings, such as 6 prong settings, that have metal that extends from the base and ‘pushes’ the wedding band away. A spacer band can sometimes fit up under the head and fill all or part of that space, making the set look visually more harmonious.

Spacer bands come in two standard widths- 1.0mm and 1.5mm – in gold and platinum.
