Cut
Cut refers to Cut Quality, the most important aspect of diamond beauty. It is a measure of craftsmanship that involves the proportions, facet placement and finish of the diamond. For more details see our page on AGS Cut Grading.
Light Performance
Result of AGSL ray tracing a 3D model of the diamond scientifically evaluating brightness, contrast, fire and leakage. For more details see our page on Light Performance Cut Grading.
Polish
The aspect of finish related to the quality of facet flatness and luster. Each facet should be polished to a mirror finish.
Symmetry
Also known as ‘meet point’ symmetry, describes the degree to which contiguous facets meet precisely at the proper places all around the diamond.
Fluorescence
Some diamonds react to strong ultraviolet light waves by emitting light, usually blue, in a process known as photoluminescence. More information can be found on our fluorescence page.
Eye-Clean
The ability or inability to see inclusions in a diamond with the naked eye. Our definition of eye-clean: No inclusions visible to the naked eye of a person with 20/20 vision when viewing the diamond in the face-up position at a distance of approximately 10 inches under normal overhead lighting. Distance, lighting and human vision all influence this judgment.
Culet
The very bottom of the pavilion side of a brilliant style diamond. It is usually pointed, but can have a flat facet placed on it that can range from very small to large.

Thanks to Brittany and Mariah for completing my order to perfection. The transaction was smooth and easy, your customer service stellar. As is the diamond, I personally didn’t expect so much fire with the technical specs of the stone but what do I know… Another thing to note: J color (and similar) seems to be a sweet spot color-wise. I don’t know if this still can be said if we are looking at bigger diamonds but in general the view of a ring is top down so you’re looking at the table and the upper facets. I suppose you might get away with a J color even with a 3 carat diamond unless your setting is platinum or white gold or if you want a halo setting with matching stones. There is a lot to learn about diamonds. Fortunately it’s not rocket science with the help of jewelry professionals like you. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

I picked up the ring this morning. Wow, it is so pretty!!! The finger coverage is just what I wanted, going across the top of my finger but not down the sides. It is very comfortable to wear. The ACA melee are bright, white and sparkly, just like my little bezel earrings :) As always, thank you so much for all your help, Michelle! Could you please thank the jeweler who made the ring for me? The sun came out today here in Connecticut and when I was outside I was amazed by all the sparkle and flashes of color that came from my beautiful little ring :) Quite the light show! Thanks again!
