Women's Jewelry Association Awards Presented

From GIA, Carlsbad, Calif. – Susan Elliott, GIA dean of students and Anna Martin, a member of GIA’s Board of Governors were both honored at the 24th Annual Women’s Jewelry Association (WJA) Award of Excellence gala on July 29, 2007 in New York City. Each year, WJA honors a number of outstanding women who have excelled at their jobs in the jewelry industry.
The gala recognizes the accomplishments of women in the industry in a variety of categories, including; manufacturing, retail, design, education, sales and marketing. Cocktails and a silent auction were followed by the dinner and the awards ceremony.
Elliott received an award in the category of Special Services:Professional Women Serving the Jewelry Industry. As the Dean of Students, Elliott presides over student life and develops and maintains the policies vital to the integrity of GIA Education. An active participant in the WJA, Elliott chaired the DIVA committee from 2003 to 2005 and served as the President of the WJA San Diego Chapter from 2002 to 2005.
“It is such an honor to be recognized by my fellow peers, colleagues, and the WJA,” said Elliott. “I am very proud to be part of such a dedicated group of leaders to promote women in the jewelry industry.”
Anna Martin received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Martin has been a member of the GIA Board of Governors for 10 years and has significantly contributed to the jewelry industry. Currently, she is the senior vice president and regional manager of ABN AMRO Bank. She has served the financial needs of the diamond and jewelry industry for most of her 38 year tenure with ABN AMRO.
“Both Susan and Anna represent GIA in the finest tradition and legacy of excellence,” said Donna Baker, GIA president. “Their talents, commitment and contributions are invaluable and we congratulate them on this fine achievement.”
