One of the world’s most desirable
diamonds will go up for auction next month in Geneva. Sotheby’s, the venerable auction house administering the auction, told the AP that the stone, a 24.78 Fancy Intense Pink Diamond, is worth up to $38 million.

Fancy colored diamonds are extremely rare, and are so called to distinguish them from the slight yellow coloration in most regular diamonds. Fancy coloreds are available in pink, yellow, brown, gold, blue and even black, but a pink diamond of this size is truly one-of-a-kind. What makes this stone even more valuable is its exceptional clarity, also rare for the size, and its emerald cut. This particular stone, which is set into a ring, disappeared into a private collection 60 years ago and has not been on the market since.
So, if you were looking for a way to spend that thirty-odd million dollars you have lying around, be sure to check out this extraordinary ring, going up for auction on November 16.
