Whiteflash & Richard Homer in a JCK "Cut Summit"

Two of the top designer-cutters in the diamond and gemstone world met in Las Vegas during the 2007 JCK show. Award-winning gemstone faceter Richard Homer viewed his exquisite gemstone collection.

Homer is recognized as a pioneer of the concave-cutting technique. Gemstone facets are usually flat. Concave facets possess length and width but they also have depth to their shape because the cutting and polishing is performed on diamond-charged round cylinders. This creates facets that are three-dimensional in shape. Optimizing color and light return is every gem cutter’s primary objective and Homer’s revolutionary technique creates a dramatic increase and evenness to the brilliance of a gem.

This 20.50 carat “triumvirate cut” amethyst is an example of the uniqueness of Homer’s work.

“Richard has a gift, his pieces are beautiful and inspiring.” Homer is well-known for fashioning the 20,769 carat Adiël Topaz, one of the largest faceted stones in the world.  Whiteflash has set several Homer creations into custom jewelry pieces, but the two cutters had never met face to face prior to the Las Vegas show. The meeting was arranged by Wink Jones, long time friend to both, to set the stage for future projects together.
