Lost Engagement Ring Found...On a Carrot

You’ve heard of lost engagement rings being rediscovered through Craigslist, being found in behind couch cushions, or even turning up in an x-ray of a pet’s stomach. But when Lena Paahlson was weeding her garden at her home in Northern Sweden earlier this month, she made an even more unusual discovery. As she pulled up a carrot by its top, she noticed a band of metal encircling the carrot. As she looked closer, she realized that it looked a lot like her
engagement ring, which she had lost...sixteen years earlier!
As the BBC reports, Paahlson had lost her engagement ring while baking in her kitchen back in 1995. After thoroughly searching her home for the missing band, even tearing up floorboards in case the ring had slipped into a crack, she gave up the search. Now, here she was holding a carrot that had somehow grown around the
diamond ring, which had somehow made its way into her backyard vegetable patch.
Paahlson told the BBC that her only explanation for this strange rediscovery is that her ring must have fallen down the drain and into the disposal. When the contents of the disposal were used as compost in her backyard garden, the ring must have gotten buried in the soil, where it lay for sixteen years, until it was somehow positioned in such a way that the carrot grew around it.
Although the white gold band set with seven small diamonds no longer fits her finger, Paahlson told the BBC that she is overjoyed to have found it and intends to have it resized so she can put it back on her finger after a sixteen-year absence. "I had given up hope," Paahlson told the BBC. "Now that I have found the ring again I want to be able to use it."
